Mommy’s Yummy Bread: When My Kids “Help” and Nothing Goes as Planned

If you picture kids helping in the kitchen as sweet and peaceful, I’m here to gently correct you.

It’s flour everywhere.

Someone is always touching the dough.

And someone is always asking, “Can I do it?” after already doing it.

Little Hands, Big Opinions

My kids love helping me bake. They want to pour, stir, poke, and “fix it.” They take their job very seriously. Especially the poking.

They don’t care if the loaf turns out perfect. They care that they were involved. And if it’s slightly lopsided, they’re very proud because they did that.

When they call it “Mommy’s yummy bread,” I melt every single time.

The Real Lesson Isn’t About Bread

Yes, it slows me down. Yes, it makes a mess. Yes, I sometimes have to remake things later.

But they’re learning patience. They’re learning how food is made. They’re learning that creating something takes time.

And I’m learning to loosen my grip a little.

Because one day, they won’t remember the bread.

They’ll remember being there.
